In the American rap scene, dominated by luxury, power and machismo, Ellison Renee Glenn aka Black Cracker is a rare exception. Following a repressed childhood in the US Bible Belt and teenage years spent on a military base in Germany, Cracker moved to New York, where he made a name for himself in the Spoken Word scene, working with such big-name artists as Coco Rosie or Unbunny. Although the twice national poetry champion sees himself as a lyricist, he also trusts in the euphoric effect of beats and basses in order to lend particular emphasis to his biography, which he assimilates in profound, unusual verses.
